DZLU November Report

MEETING MINUTES                             

1) ACTIVE PROJECTS DISCUSSED:

1.  Extenet/Verizon Wireless Service Facilities:  It was reported that a metal pole installation on Francisco Street (Leavenworth/Jones) did NOT bury the equipment inside the hollow pole, but rather placed equipment in brown boxes attached to the pole (NOT the way Extenet showed in their photo simulation)  DZLU will send a letter to Omar Masry of the Department of Public Works expressing RHN’s concern about this situation WITH PHOTO and cc: Supervisors Peskin and Farrell.
2. Article 25 (Re: Wireless facilities):  An important hearing will be held on this on December 9^th at 9AM at Room 400 City Hall.  It is hoped that as many folks as possible attend this meeting and state their concerns about the revisions to Article 25.  (RHN is concerned that the proposed amendments to Article 25 regulations would further limit citizens’ and the City’s rights to appeal inappropriate/damaging wireless facility locations.)  NOTE:  All 4 appeals re: facilities proposed for Russian Hill were recently denied, however similar appeals in both the Sunset and Richmond were upheld.
3. Undergrounding:  One minor “silver lining” of the Extenet/Verizon debacle is a renewed interest in undergrounding.  All San Francisco PG&E customers are still paying every month for those areas which WERE undergrounded with an expectation that these funds are intended to increase undergrounding throughout the City.
4. Lombard Street Ambassador Program: A meeting was held at City Hall November 16th to review the Ambassador Program (which has been discontinued until May 2016, when it will run 7 days a week). It was agreed that this program has alleviated some of the traffic problems for Hyde and Lombard Streets, HOWEVER the situation is still very bad on Leavenworth Street. Anne B. has received some interest for her idea of planters on the sidewalks along Leavenworth to discourage sidewalk parking. She will be meeting with several departments re: establishing these planters along Leavenworth.

2)  NEW PROJECTS/NOTICES RECEIVED:

1. a) 1361 Filbert Street:  New 311 Remodel (there was a Pre-Ap. on this 6 months ago).  We have not heard from immediate neighbors on this, and there are apparently no concerns that the proposed remodel would negatively impact an historic property.  The committee felt that the proposed remodel improves the building’s façade.  With no apparent problems = no action at present.
