Our Central Station “Street Crimes Unit’ (plain clothes team) have been very active and tremendously successful apprehending auto burglars in the Central Police District. The team has made 112 arrests since April this year alone!
Here are some auto burglary prevention tips straight from Sergeant Steven Spagnuolo, the Team Leader:
Auto Burglary suspects will often drop one or two people off to case vehicles to burglarize while the driver remains in the car.
Auto Burglary suspects will lean up against a vehicle to use their body to shield them breaking the window from possible witnesses.
Auto Burglary suspects will use hooded sweatshirts or masks to hide their faces from witnesses.
Auto Burglary suspects will use flashlights or lights on their mobile devices to illuminate the inside of vehicles at night.
