DZLU MEETING DATE: AUGUST 22, 2017
1. ONGOING PROJECTS:
a. 2462 Polk Street MCD:
Please see the RHN Executive Committee’s letter about this proposed project elsewhere in this eblast and on RHN’s website.
b. Wireless Antennae on Wooden Poles: After the Board of Appeals hearing in which the Board appeared to grant the appeal of the installation at 2215 Leavenworth, Verizon’s attorney wrote to the City Attorney asserting that, per federal law, permits not ruled on within 90 days become approved. The final hearing on the appeal is scheduled for September 13th at 5PM, at the Board of Appeals. Support from all who can attend is appreciated.
c. Undergrounding of Utilities: Sandra Fewer has called a meeting of select Supervisors and the DPW to ascertain how the very limited allotted funds are being spent relative to writing a master plan for undergrounding the rest of the city. Only four supervisors have not yet endorsed undergrounding. A hopeful sign is that DPW staff have been speaking to San Diego re their implementation of undergrounding.
d. 948-950 Lombard Street/841 Chestnut Street (Willis Polk demolition): A conditional use hearing before the Planning Commission will be held August 31st to permit a lot merger and associated 2nd dwelling unit. Owners will pay $400,000 in fines for unpermitted work. An estimated project value of $30 million was cited by Planning at the Historic Preservation Commission on August 2. The Commission urged exploring more severe penalties in the future that better reflect project value, to strengthen deterrence. DZLU strongly shares this concern over the apparent willful demolition of a historic resource and wishes to learn the facts that led up to it.
e. 982 Green Street: This project had proceeded without permits or required variances, and without historic review. It included façade alterations to the oldest contributor to the Macondray Lane National Historic District. Mandatory Discretionary Review is scheduled for the Planning Commission in October.
