Summer is nearing an end and school is beginning in earnest this week. As we begin each school year, this year included, the awareness and safety of our children must be heightened. This is especially true on the streets of our city which will see a marked increase in children walking to and from our homes and schools on school days. Because children are smaller than adults they are often difficult to see in crosswalks and on sidewalks as they wait to cross our intersections. Because of this I ask that you look twice, and drive slowly, especially in school zones, so that we can avoid any unfortunate tragedies involving children and vehicles.
