
Communications

The communications committee provides strategic direction for and development and execution of communications and marketing strategies that support initiatives central to Russian Hill Neighbors’ mission and purpose. The committee actively promotes the organization to prospective members and, when appropriate, throughout the city at large. It supports the communications and marketing needs of RHN’s various committees. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the oversight and maintenance of marketing, brand, website, newsletters, social media, and print campaigns.

Design & Zoning

The Design, Zoning and Land Use (DZLU) Committee monitors development and land use issues affecting Russian Hill and makes policy and action recommendations to RHN’s Board. It encourages the preservation and restoration of Russian Hill’s significant historic structures. It examines the effects of the planning and building codes in our neighborhood and engages with the city and other governmental agencies, and other neighborhood organizations, to achieve beneficial projects and policies.

Families

The Families Committee promotes the development of family-sensitive services for Russian Hill residents. It works with City agencies and officials to ensure the quality of family life and works to publicize those services. The Committee may also organize events for families living on Russian Hill.

History

The History Committee gathers books, articles, documents, and artifacts about Russian Hill history. It publishes historical information on the RHN web site and explores opportunities for special events and activities designed to promote an appreciation of Russian Hill history.

Membership

The Membership Committee is responsible for the strategy and execution of membership development and retention. The Committee maintains membership lists and coordinates any communications about membership with the RHN Board and community.

Membership Engagement

The Membership Engagement Committee focuses on engaging new and long-term members to foster the sense of community in the neighborhood throughout the year. The Committee works with new members to help them feel part of the RHN community and to understand the many activities and resources available to them. The Committee partners with other RHN committees to reinforce the benefits of RHN and to expand the activities available for members.

Neighborhood Enhancement

The Neighborhood Enhancement Committee promotes the improvement of the physical environment of the Russian Hill neighborhood by acting as the liaison with city agencies and fostering a neighborhood spirit to improve the quality of life for people who reside and work on Russian Hill.

Parks

The Parks Committee works to engage the community in learning about and caring for our the parks on Russian Hill. It lobbies for appropriate care and maintenance of our parks, is active in conversations regarding design or renovation of parks, and communicates with city and government agencies as well as the RHN Board and members regarding our parks.
The committee may plan events related to park maintenance, community engagement, and other park-related topics.

Safety

The Safety Committee promotes the safety of the neighborhood and its residents by acting as a liaison with the City’s Police Department (specifically the Central and Northern Districts) and Fire Department. The Committee encourages Russian Hill residents to participate in emergency preparedness training and works on developing an overall Disaster Plan for the Russian Hill area.

Social

The Social Committee organizes social events to encourage the interaction of members of Russian Hill Neighbors. The committee plans and staffs the social hour of the RHN General Membership meeting, as well as plans and executes on annual events including our summer picnic and holiday party. The committee works closely with other committees on events that further their cause.

Transportation

The Transportation Committee deals with transportation issues, including public transportation, traffic congestion, parking, street maintenance and alternative transportation modes. Current issues include support for extending the Central Subway to serve our neighborhood, advocating measures to mitigate the adverse impact of Lombard (“crooked street”) congestion, and evaluating the need for and impact of bike and scooter rental stations. The committee holds occasional meetings (open to RHN members) with public officials and advocates RHN’s positions at regular and special meetings with city officials.
