The Central Subway — a new subway line for San Francisco — is now under construction from the CalTrain station to Chinatown. The tunnel boring machines are being extracted at the former Pagoda Theater site on Washington Square, but the City doesn’t presently plan on building a station there. Russian Hill Neighbors is urging the City to build a station at Washington Square and extend the line to Fisherman’s Wharf (probably near door to the Cannery). If this extension is built, we could have a 5-minute ride to Market Street and a 10-minute ride to CalTrain, providing fast, reliable and comfortable transportation for Russian Hill residents. The most critical elements now are completion of the initial study of the extension and acquisition of the Pagoda Theater property as the site of a station. Your support is needed!
