RUSSIAN HILL NEIGHBORS
DESIGN ZONING AND LAND USE COMMITTEE
SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA
REPORT TO EBLAST AUGUST 2014
1
The DZLU Committee met on Tuesday 07-29-2014
Some of the issue discussed included:

1045-1061 Broadway / 1000 Block of Broadway — Tree Removal
Long ago, RHN was the appellant protesting the removal of trees on Broadway. The
long-postponed Board of Appeals hearing has been scheduled for 10-29-2014. DZLU
has reached out to the permit holders with the hope of finding a satisfactory resolution
to the issue, prior to the hearing date.

1137 Green Street Garages in Retaining Wall
DZLU will follow up regarding the concern of the placement and appearance of the
visible meters and exposed conduit pipes.

1338 Filbert Street — Cottages
The project continues to progress as can be seen by the recent large concrete pour.

AT&T U-Verse Boxes
DZLU continues to follow the status of proposed AT&T U-Verse boxes on our sidewalks
and the lawsuit filed by AT&T against the City of San Francisco.

Francisco Reservoir / Park
To celebrate the unanimous vote by our Board of Supervisors to approve the transfer of
the abandoned reservoir site from the PUC to the Recreation and Parks Department, a
reception was held to thank all who worked so hard to make this happen – particularly
District 2 Supervisor Mark Farrell. The FRWG (Francisco Reservoir Working Group)
members, which include representatives from RHN, are pursuing efforts to raise funds
and form a Conservancy Board to complete and maintain the project. RHN and DZLU
are proud of our efforts and contributions to this cause.

Lombard “Crooked Street” Traffic and Trial Closure
To address negative traffic impacts and neighbors’ concerns, the trial closure of
portions of Lombard Street to vehicular traffic was recently tested over several
weekends. Many Lombard Street neighbors who live west of Hyde Street appreciated
the relief from backed up traffic provided by the closure. Some Crooked Street
neighbors liked the friendly atmosphere created by the many pedestrians walking
down Lombard. However, the situation on Leavenworth has been reported to be
much worse with the closure: huge traffic jams blocking access to homes and garages,

I am trying to trace the history of a property on Green Street, 1326 Green Street. I want to learn about who built it in 1908, what kind of construction was it (single family/two family, etc). I hope the committee can point me in the right direction – I am trying to do a history of this property as a gift to a friend.

Christine, I would recommend you start with Al Greening, our RHN history rep. I will pass along your comment to him but suggest you email him at history@rhnsf.org. I hope you get some answers as it sounds like a great gift.
