adopt a street

Are you Interested in working with your community to keep our streets clean?  You can join the effort by signing up for the ADOPT-A- STREET program. DPW provides the equipment you need–rakes, trash-pickers, brooms, gloves, dust pans, trash bags, compostable leaf bags, and graffiti removal kits. Many of your neighbors on Russian Hill, including families and merchants, are currently participating in the program. You can apply by emailing volunteer@sfdpw.org. You can also download the Adopt-A-Street Application (PDF) for more information.

If you’re looking for a lighter commitment you can still join your neighbors for a few hours on periodically  organized neighborhood sweeps. Volunteers team up and go to work spiffing up the neighborhood. This can be another great way to meet your neighbors while serving your community and creating a more beautiful environment. If you are unable to participate in our sweep team efforts you can always be part of the solution by sweeping in front of your property and/or coordinating a sweep with the neighbors on your block.

Please use 311 service to report furniture, mattresses, debris, and garbage illegally dumped on sidewalks and street corners. 311 is also your best option to report graffiti on USPS boxes, bus shelters, park benches, and other public places and properties. You can either dial 311 or download the app, SF311, to your smart phone to make pick up requests with DPW. It’s  a super easy way to make a huge difference.

Please contact us at improvement@rhnsf.org if you have questions regarding street cleaning or would like to get involved in one of our neighborhood events or projects.

Adopting a street to keep it clean is a great idea. My street is regularly swept by the city. I’m glad they take pride in their cleanliness. It really makes a difference to me as a citizen. How do street sweeping trucks work?
