Dear RHN Member,
Thank you very much for contacting RHN with your concerns regarding the possibility of a Medical Cannabis Dispensary (MCD) opening on Polk at Filbert Street. We are aware that there are many questions and considerable unease among many of our members about this prospect.
Please be assured that the RHN’s Board of Directors and DZLU Committee are committed to following a thorough, thoughtful, responsible and responsive process on this issue, adhering to our organization’s Mission Statement. Since RHN’s founding nearly 40 years ago, this has been our approach and we firmly believe that the credibility and influence we have achieved and continue to maintain among public officials and agencies is the result of our organization’s commitment to this judicious practice.
It is our understanding that no specific proposal has been submitted for this particular MCD, and the current activity could be reasonably characterized as exploratory on the part of the proposed dispensary operator. There has been one community information meeting so far, and we have assurances that another one will be scheduled before the operator decides whether to move forward.
The Board of Supervisors is considering legislation and procedures vis-a-vis the impact on, and appropriateness of the siting of such dispensaries as the new rules for recreational marijuana take effect. We are thus in an information gathering mode at this point, keeping in touch with our district supervisors, the dispensary operator and you, our members. We may, as we have done several times in the past, conduct a membership survey, once there is a better picture of the specifics and the related contextual issues of a Polk Street MCD, either at the Filbert location or any other within our boundaries.
Please continue to frequent our website, www.rhnsf.org where we post information, related resources and important dates and contact information as we learn about them. Our monthly eblast is also an important communication tool by which we keep our members and others in the community informed.
Again, thank you for being a member of RHN and for sharing your suggestions, concerns and ideas with us.
Sincerely,
The RHN Executive Committee
