DZLU MEETING DATE: March 19, 2024
1. ONGOING POLICY UPDATES
a. HOUSING POLICY UPDATES
Housing Element Zoning Program:
To recap, RHN’s letter of 3/1/24 acknowledged Planning’s responsiveness to our request to eliminate the proposed height increases centered on Hyde St. in the residential core of Russian Hill, but reiterated our remaining concerns about height increases to 65-ft north of Bay St. at Aquatic Park and Ghirardelli Sq. and greater increases east of Van Ness especially along portions of upper Polk St. that appear inequitable in comparison to other neighborhood commercial corridors.

RHN hosted via Zoom a meeting for members on 3/11/24 at which Planning staff presented the current proposals followed by questions and responses. There were approximately 25-30 participants. Many thanks to Board and DZLU members who helped organize this, provided technical support and managed the questions and chat box. A link to a recording of the meeting:

We will continue to work with the Planning Department as the plans evolve. The next informational presentation at the Planning Commission will be
scheduled in the coming weeks.
b. HISTORIC PRESERVATION
DZLU shared thoughts on developing an educational program on historic preservation for RHN members, exploring a range of sessions that might include (1) a panel with Planning staff and others engaged in preservation, (2) a presentation by an architectural historian, and (3) Russian Hill walking
tours. Volunteers from RHN would be needed to help plan and present programs.
