President’s October Letter

Dear Members, Merchants and Friends,

It has been a busy time for RHN as we continue to live out our mission statement in keeping our neighborhood vibrant, safe and clean.

RHN’s first Kids’ Safety Fair was a phenomenal success.  Hundreds of parents, kids, and families came out to sunny Helen Wills Park and met incredibly kind police officers, played with dogs Argos and Max, and had the chance to sit on motorcycles and check out an SUV and squad car. The kids were thrilled! Chief Greg Suhr, Commander Ann Mannix, and Captain David Lazar handed out SFPD stickers and bracelets, and Supervisor Julie Christensen came by to chat with families. Snacks and the bounce house added extra fun — and we certainly generated lots of interest in RHN!

It was wonderful to see such a positive response from our area to this Kids’ Safety Fair. Everyone really appreciated RHN’s efforts. Looking forward to a similar event with the SF Fire Department in the Spring! Thank you to Emily Harrold for all your work in orchestrating this great event.

On October 1st RHN/LWV co sponsored a D3 Candidate Forum at Francisco Middle School. It was a well attended (150 people) and lively event that was moderated by Cheryl Jennings. Hopefully we gave constituents a better understanding of the candidates’ positions. Candidates Supervisor Julie Christensen, Wilma Pang and Aaron Peskin were all articulate and very informative.

Our September Neighborhood Sweep was well attended and very successful. Thank you to Greg Polchow who continually leads the Sweep Brigade with both a smile and a broom. Thanks to all our volunteers!

I would personally like to thank two RHN Board Members who have done extraordinary work on the events we have sponsored over the past two weeks.  Phoebe Douglass and Emily Harrold have lifted, carried, greeted, fed children, run after loose balloons, set up and broken down an auditorium, endured 2 hours of children pushing siren buttons in the squad cars and ended each event with huge smiles! Thank you can never describe the respect and gratitude I have for you. Gratitude is underrated. YOU ARE NOT!

Warm regards,
Tina Moylan

Thank you for the great service DZLU provides to RHN members. It would be nice to be able to access some of the draft policies and documents you refer to in your reports, i.e., the roof deck policy you are considering and the Pacific Heights good neighbor policy you mention in this month’s report. Where can members find these?
