Dear Members, Merchants, and Neighbors;

After a chilly August with just one day above 70 degrees, hopefully summer will arrive this month in San Francisco. Well, we are counting on it! Russian Hill Neighbors is gearing up for a busy September full of volunteer opportunities, community meetings, and social events. Please check our calendar regularly for updates. Among other activities, we are hosting a Wine & Dine event on Saturday, September 24 where each participant will be assigned a recipe to make and bring to the host’s home. Contact RHN’s Social Chair, Joyce Kucharvy, at social@rhnsf.org to learn more. Also, the RHN Book Group will be discussing The Nest by Cynthia D’Aprix Sweeney on Thursday, September 28 at 7pm. Connect with Lynn Jacobs at bookgroup@rhnsf.org for more details. Cap off September with an incredible evening of art and socializing in Russian Hill at the Alhambra Project event on Friday, September 30 from 7-10pm. It begins at the Alhambra Theater (Crunch Gym) and ends with a reception at Backstage Salon. RHN and Cole Hardware are two of the local co-sponsors. Learn more about this unique and free event here.

Also, we have a star in our midst! RHN’s Board Member and Neighborhood Improvement Chair, Greg Polchow, is featured in a new video from San Francisco Public Works highlighting his efforts to help beautify our neighborhood and the impact it has on our community. Among other activities, Greg organizes a monthly Neighborhood Sweep event and he is partnering with other organizations on a significant tree-planting initiative for our area. Come meet Greg at our next Neighborhood Sweep event on Saturday, September 10 at 9:30am at Union/Leavenworth. As Greg says, “Join the team, keep SF clean!” Thank you, Greg, for all that you do!

In September we will also kick off our annual membership drive. Revenue from membership is vital for funding our modest operating expenses (website hosting, mailings, event refreshments, etc.) and allows us to support and increase our array of activities. If you are a current member, please renew for next year. If you are not yet a member, please join us! Learn more about our membership options, including our new discounted membership for those under 30, on our Membership page.

Finally, we want to celebrate our Merchant Member of the Month, Cole Hardware! Store manager Leo Sepulveda, marketing lead Julia Strzesieski, and the entire store staff are always ready to help answer questions about their products, troubleshoot home issues, and also support community events that make Russian Hill so wonderful. We are grateful to have Cole Hardware in our neighborhood at 2254 Polk Street and as a member of Russian Hill Neighbors. As a special gift, they are offering the RHN community $10 off a purchase of $30 or more through September 15 with this coupon.  Print coupon.  Thank you, Cole Hardware!

Please contact me with any questions or to get involved in our community. I look forward to seeing you around our beautiful neighborhood soon.

Warm regards,

Emily Harrold
