The Parks Committee met on two recent Saturday afternoons to tour the green spaces and parks in our neighborhood. We identified approximately 20 unique green areas in Russian Hill, from beautifully-maintained steps such as those on Greenwich between Hyde and Leavenworth, to numerous parks and streets that would benefit from our attention.
Not all of our green areas are parks…many spaces are actually street rights-of-way where it was simply too steep to allow cars. These ‘green streets” are maintained by the Department of Public Works.
Susan Karasoff, our RHN expert with California Native Plant Society, contributed ideas on where native plants would greatly enhance our greening. The Committee will begin conducting monthly cleanups while developing contacts with city officials for support.
